Strengthening national defense is a major priority, writes George N. Tzogopoulos, ELIAMEP Research Fellow, in his article for the newspaper TA NEA. It is inconceivable that Greece would engage in negotiations with Turkey out of fear or be forced to negotiate in fear following a hot incident, Tzogopoulos points out and explains that, in this context, the improvement of Greek-French relations is particularly welcome. At this critical moment, Greece is picking its allies. This was done by Konstantinos Karamanlis in the 1960s, when he developed a close personal relationship to General De Gaulle. His example must be studied and applied today, as our country attempts to cover lost ground and is in search of a new narrative, if not a new doctrine, Tzogopoulos emphasizes.
