Ioannis Armakolas has been invited by Política Exterior journal and the Secretariat for the European Union-Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to speak during a two-day seminar on “The enlargement of the European Union in the new geopolitical context”, which was held between June 7-8 at the University of Alcalá (Alcalá de Henares – Madrid).

On the eve of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union (July-December 2023), Política Exterior journal, in collaboration with the State Secretariat for the European Union Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation and University of Alcalá, brought together a group of experts from EU member states and candidate countries to discuss the new  geopolitical context of enlargement, the different existing proposals to promote a profoundly  transformative policy and the challenges it implies for each of the countries and for the European Union as a whole.

More specifically, Ioannis Armakolas participated at the panel on the “Challenges of an enlarged European Union” chaired by Belén Becerril, Professor of European Union Law at San Pablo-CEU University (Spain) with other speakers namely,  Ignacio Molina, Senior Analyst, Elcano Royal Institute (Spain) Zoran Nechev, Director of the Centre for EU Integration at the Institute for Democracy (North Macedonia) and associate member of DGAP (Germany) Wouter Zweers, Research fellow at the European Union and Global Affairs Unit  (Clingendael, The Netherlands).
