Ioannis Armakolas was a key speaker along with Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi at a round table discussion within the framework the 7th Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy entitled: “Kosovo and the global stage: Media narratives and the perception of international relations,” on June 15.

Dr. Armakolas explained how the media narratives about Kosovo evolved from the time of the war in 1999 until today and the factors that have contributed to these changes. He further talked about today’s image of Kosovo through various ways and within the framework of new media and social media trends, as well as the positive impact popular pop stars like Dua Lipa or Rita Ora and even the country’s national football team have on the Balkan country’s profile at a global stage.

He further talked about today’s current political situation in Kosovo and urged the students to seek ways to get to know more about the small, newly and vibrant Western Balkan state.
