From 1990 to 2021, Malta consistently led the Mediterranean countries in trade as a percentage of GDP, reaching 287.7% in 2021. Cyprus followed in second place with 170% of its GDP. In contrast, Egypt had the lowest trade percentage among Mediterranean countries at around 31%.
