In 2022, consistent with their position as the largest economies in the Med region, France, Italy, and Spain emerged as the top three importers and exporters in the region. Conversely, Syria, Montenegro, and Albania exhibited the lowest levels of imports and exports. Notably, most countries in the region reported a trade deficit although Spain, Israel, Slovenia, Algeria, Malta, and Libya reported a trade surplus.
