Building Citizenhood in a Democratic Cyprus

This edited volume includes the proceedings of the conference that was held in Cyprus on September 27-28, 2003 entitled “Building Citizenhood in a Democratic Cyprus.” With an introduction by Theodore Couloumbis and Philippos Savvides explaining the notion of citizenhood this collection of essays aims at problematizing the whole debate of peace and state building in divided societies like Cyprus. The underlying theme suggests that there can be no effective and democratic statehood building in the absence of citizenhood; that is, the active and substantive participation of the citizen in this process. In addition, the volume includes (in Greek, Turkish and English) the full reports of the two workshops that took place within the framework of the project.
