Effie Fokas, Senior Research Fellow at ELIAMEP wrote a blog post titled: “An underused resource’ at the grassroots level: Freedom of and from religion through the European Court of Human Rights.”

Through the Grassrootsmobilise Research ProgrammeEffie Fokas has led a comparative study of how national conditions in Greece, Italy, Romania and Turkey continue to influence levels of civil society engagement with the Court.

As it is mentioned in the blog piece: “Despite the ‘rapid judicialization’ of religion at the European Court of Human Rights, the Court and its rulings remain unknown to many grassroots actors.”
