The Transatlantic Periscope is an interactive, multimedia tool that brings together expert commentary, high-quality media coverage, official policy documents, quantitative data, social media posts, and gray literature. It will provide on a monthly basis a summary of the most important news concerning the Greek-US relations. Below you will find an overview for March 2024.

On March 6, a Russian missile attack was carried out on Odessa, during the visit of the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the proximity of his meeting with the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky. Later in the month, Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, had a telephone conversation with Mitsotakis in which they reaffirmed the importance of the US-Greece bilateral relationship and shared values as NATO allies in promoting peace and prosperity. Blinken also thanked him for Greece’s continued contribution to Ukraine’s security.

In addition, on March 13, the Hellenic Parliament ratified the two Memoranda of Cooperation signed between the Ministries of National Defense of the Hellenic Republic and the US, for the assignment of Greek personnel to the US Army and to the US Special Operations Command.

On the 203rd anniversary of Greek Independence, on March 25, 2024, US President, Joe Biden, noted that “the partnership, alliance and friendship shared by Greece and the US is stronger than ever before”. On the same occasion, Antony Blinken hailed Greece as a “principled proponent of peace and prosperity”.
