“I think that what Erdoğan is most concerned with is the acknowledgment of Turkey’s status. Erdoğan wants it to be recognized that he is a key player in the Eastern Mediterranean. That nothing important can happen in the region without Turkey. Turkey is a peripheral power in a region with global aspirations. It is a G20 country. It is a regional power. It has troops deployed in three or four countries. It has military relations with numerous others. Nothing can happen without Turkey being considered. This behavior we have seen in the past from Russia,” said George Pagoulatos, Director General of ELIAMEP, in his interview with ACTION 24.
