Most of the political leaders of EU Member States, among them the Greek Prime Minister, have been speaking of “war” and the “invisible enemy” when discussing the threat of the pandemic, points out Triandafyllos Karatrantos, ELIAMEP Research Fellow, in his article for the newspaper TA NEA. Yet, this is not a war that can be won by large and well-trained armies, technologically advanced weapon systems or electronic sabotage, argues Karatrantos. Coronavirus has exposed, in the most dramatic of ways, the need for a reform of the security sector and the necessity of a transition to Modern National Security States.
