Global Politics Winter School Greece 2010: Doing Politics in the Face of Economic and Financial Crises: European Realities and Perceptions

 

The Center for Global Politics at the Freie Universität Berlin, in co-operation with the Hellenic Foundation of European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), offered a winter school programme on: Doing Politics in the Face of Economic and Financial Crises: European Realities and Perceptions. Twenty seven Greek and foreign students were chosen by a selection committee, following the evaluation of submitted applications. The students followed presentations and participated in working groups, under the supervision of Greek and German teachers and had to submit two papers and a presentation. The seminar took place in Athens from 4 – 14 December 2010 and English was its working language.

The curriculum covered topics reflecting developments and debates in global political and economic processes in the 21st century. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of the media with regard to recent economic and political challenges in Greece, Germany and the wider European Union. Discussion was based on topics and seminars such as:

–          Making Sense of Global Politics in an New Context

–          EU Integration – EU External Relations

–          Developments in Financial and Capital Markets

–          Interactive Learning: Stereotypes in Europe

–          Expert Workshop: Media and Politics
