On 5 May 2014 ELIAMEP’s South-East Europe Programme organised a roundtable discussion with Dr. Robert Donia, Associate Professor of History at the University of Sarajevo, who is an expert on modern Southeast Europe. In the discussion entitled “The Return of Impunity: The Collapse of Justice at the Yugoslav War Crimes Tribunal” Dr. Donia focused on discrepancies between the verdicts issued by the Appellate and the first instance Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Dr. Donia has testified as a historical expert witness at fifteen war crimes trials ICTY, including those of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic and Bosnian Serb political and military leaders, Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic.
