On 17 January 2013 the Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) organised a roundtable discussion with Mr Greg Delawie (Deputy Assistant Secretary Bureau of Arms Control, Verification and Compliance, U.S. Department of State). In his presentation Mr Delawie focused on the importance of arms control by analysing the concept of security in Europe in a historical perspective. He also emphasised on the importance of reduction of nuclear arsenal and the extent to which the co-operation between Washington and Moscow has been improved. The discussion, which followed, was also synthesised around topical issues such as the crisis in Syria and the possible usage of chemical weapons by Bashar as Assad.
