Nikiforos Diamandouros has had a long and international career in public and academic life. Having served as the European Ombudsman of the European Union (2003–2013), he also went on to become Greece’s first national Ombudsman (1998–2003). Concurrently, he served as a Professor of Political Science at the University of Athens and a regular member of the Academy of Athens from 2014 on.

Nikiforos Diamandouros is a member of the Honorary Council of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), in which role he has contributed substantially thanks to his academic expertise and international experience, strengthening the Foundation’s role in the public discourse along with its evidence-based policy analysis.

His assumption of the Presidency of the Academy of Athens is a particular honour for the institution, as well as recognition of Mr Diamandouros’s contributions overall.
