This paper offers a comprehensive review of the objectives of the EU’ s human rights policy, of the approach that the EU institutions and the Member States have developed in order to promote the respect for fundamental rights and freedoms in third countries, and of the instruments which have been developed for this purpose in the context of CFSP, of the Union’s external economic relations and of its development co-operation policies.
