On Wednesday, February 4, Dr. Elena Lazarou, Director General of ELIAMEP, delivered a European Union Luncheon Talk at Princeton University on “The Future of European Defense”, an event organized by the European Programme at Princeton.
As Europe navigates an increasingly complex security environment, Dr. Lazarou examined key developments shaping the continent’s defence agenda, including debates on European strategic autonomy, the long-term implications of the war in Ukraine, and the EU’s emerging initiatives under the “Readiness 2030” framework. She analysed how the EU is redefining its role as a security actor, strengthening capabilities, and recalibrating its relationship with NATO and the United States. She also focused on the challenges and scenario going forward, including technological edge, innovation and human resources.
