MIGREC’s principal goal was to build capacities and strengthen the structures that would enhance migration-related research and studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Belgrade with a special focus on impacting on the rising challenges that Serbia faced at that time.

OVERVIEW

The programme’s outcome was the establishment of a research center entitled “MIGREC” (Migration, Integration and Governance Research Center), under the auspices of the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Belgrade. This research center ensured the continuation of research and publications on the field of migration as well as the support and mentoring of its scholars and fellows through the creation of a Ph.D. program. Moreover, the programme supported the academic personnel of the University of Belgrade by aiming at the enhancement and intensification of their contribution to migration-related research and the broadening of the policy agenda when it came to Serbia’s imminent challenges. Additionally, MIGREC built all the essential structures to guarantee an efficient coordination regarding three decisive topics: integration, the migration – development nexus, and the migration – government nexus.

THEMATIC AREAS

MIGREC brought life to a joint, well-structured coordination and support approach designed to ensure an effective infusion of state-of-the-art research knowledge in three areas that emerged as specific challenges:

Migrant integration: Building knowledge on the most important debates around migrant integration in European societies at that time, to inform the development, implementation, and evaluation of integration policies in Serbia.

Migration-development nexus: Building understanding of who benefited most, where, why and how in diaspora-centered development strategies, to inform the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies at the nexus of migration and development in Serbia.

Migration governance: Building knowledge of the norms and organizational structures at global, supranational, regional, and national levels which regulated and shaped how states responded to migration, to inform the development of appropriate governance in Serbia.

CONSORTIUM

University of Belgrade – Faculty of Political Sciences (Serbia)

Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) (Greece)

South-East European Research Centre (Greece)

University of Sheffield (UK)

ELIAMEP TEAM

Ioannis Armakolas

Panagiotis Paschalidis

Bledar Feta

Julianne Funk

Alexandros Koutras

Thodoros Vavikis

For more information, please visit the MIGREC’s website.

All the resources of the project are available here.

The project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research & Innovation programme under Grant Agreement no. 857261.

[23,22
