{"id":23901,"date":"2009-01-19T15:15:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-19T12:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eliamep.lncdoo.com\/projects\/an-eu-fit-for-purpose-in-a-global-age\/"},"modified":"2024-09-13T16:10:52","modified_gmt":"2024-09-13T13:10:52","slug":"an-eu-fit-for-purpose-in-a-global-age","status":"publish","type":"projects","link":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/en\/projects\/an-eu-fit-for-purpose-in-a-global-age\/","title":{"rendered":"An EU &#8220;fit for purpose&#8221; in a global age"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"the-content\"><p>ELIAMEP has become actively involved with the Policy Network in London and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lse.ac.uk\/collections\/europeanInstitute\/\">European Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science <\/a>in the project \u201cAn EU \u2018fit for purpose\u2019 in a global age\u201d.<strong><\/p>\n<p> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p> The projects focus is on four research and policy clusters:<\/p>\n<p> \u2022 Enlargement, neighbourhood and identity<\/p>\n<p> \u2022 Internal security and migration<\/p>\n<p> \u2022 Economic governance in the single market and eurozone<\/p>\n<p> \u2022 Competitiveness, sustainability (demographic as well as environmental) and social cohesion<\/p>\n<p> In each of these clusters, the project address the following questions:<\/p>\n<p> \u2022 Is it a valid assumption that current economic, social and cultural trends demand a new, more coherent and consistent EU policy framework?<\/p>\n<p> \u2022 What are the \u201cpros\u201d and \u201ccons\u201d of further EU integration in the respective areas?<\/p>\n<p> \u2022 What are the critical policy choices to be made, reflecting a political judgement of where policy progress may be possible?<\/p>\n<p> \u2022 What is the degree of convergence of interests and values within the EU in these areas and are differences the product of inter-country or partisan divisions?<\/p>\n<p> \u2022 Would it be possible to justify further steps in EU integration to the European public?
