Karatrantos"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"the-content\"><p>On the occasion of the International Day\u00a0for the Elimination of\u00a0Violence against Women, on November 25th, ELIAMEP publishes a Policy brief by <strong>Dr. Triantafyllos Karatrantos, <\/strong>Research Fellow.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the UN, 35% of women worldwide have suffered domestic or sexual violence.<\/li>\n<li>According to the EU, one in ten women has been subjected to online sexual harassment since the age of 15.<\/li>\n<li>During the pandemic and especially during the restrictive measures phase, calls to victim support lines increased fivefold.<\/li>\n<li>A very significant number of incidents are not reported.<\/li>\n<li>The woman, the child, the elderly, the vulnerable seek protection in the family, not exploitation and violence.<\/li>\n<li>The elimination of violence against women, but also violence in general, is primarily a matter of culture.\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The change of culture needs the cooperation of all actors, public and private.<\/li>\n<li>States and societies must become the voice of the victims.<\/li>\n<li>In modern national security states there can be no such separation between low and high intensity violence.<\/li>\n<li>Prevention of violence requires a political, operational and social chain of coordination.<\/li>\n<li>Prevention is not a narrow state affair; it is a key dynamic of a healthy and participatory civil society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may read the Policy brief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/\u039a\u03b1\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03ac\u03bd\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2-Policy-Brief-140.pdf\">here<\/a> (in Greek).<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the occasion of the International Day\u00a0for the Elimination of\u00a0Violence against Women, on November 25th, ELIAMEP publishes a Policy brief by Dr. Triantafyllos Karatrantos, Research Fellow.
