VaughanWilliams (2017) Crossing the Mediterranean Sea by Boat: Mapping and Documenting Migratory Journeys and Experiences, Final Project Report<\/p>\n<p>This report provides a unique, in-depth analysis of the impact of EU policies in addressing the so called\u00a0European migration or refugee \u2018crisis\u2019 in 2015 and 2016. Crossing the Mediterranean Sea\u00a0by Boat undertook 257 in-depth qualitative interviews with a total of 271 participants across seven\u00a0sites in two phases: Kos, Malta and Sicily from September-November 2015, and Athens, Berlin,\u00a0Istanbul and Rome from May-July 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Uniquely, the project focused directly on the impact of policies upon people on the move,\u00a0drawing together policy analysis and observational fieldwork with in-depth analysis of qualitative\u00a0interview data from people making \u2013 or contemplating making \u2013 the dangerous journey across the\u00a0Mediterranean Sea. As such, the report provides previously-unconsidered insights into the effects\u00a0of policy on the journeys, experiences, understandings, expectations, concerns and demands of\u00a0people on the move.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to providing seven site-based case study analyses, the project also provides the first\u00a0detailed assessment of policies associated with A European Agenda on Migration in terms of policy\u00a0effects both across routes (eastern and central Mediterranean) and over time (2015 and 2016).
