Religions, such as Christianity, face the prospect of extinction in terms of numbers from the region. In this context, the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe held a Conference on\u00a0Freedom of religion and safety for the Christian communities in the Middle East and the Southern Mediterranean\u00a0in Athens, on 7 May 2014.
