Since October 2013 Jens Bastian established himself as an independent economic consultant<\/b> and financial sector analyst.<\/p>\n

His main areas of expertise concern China\u2019s expanding<\/b> investment and bank lending footprint<\/b> in Europe<\/b> <\/b>and Greek-German bilateral relations<\/b>.<\/p>\n

As an EBRD consultant he authored in July 2017 a report on China\u2019s growing infrastructure engagement in Southeast Europe: https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/news\/2017\/what-chinas-belt-and-road-initiative-means-for-the-western-balkans.html<\/a><\/p>\n

From September 2011 to September 2013 Dr. Jens Bastian was appointed by the Europea<\/b>n Commission <\/b>as a member of the Task Force for Greece <\/b>in <\/b>Athens, Greece.<\/p>\n

His previous professional experience includes working as Lead Economist \/ Institution Building for the European Agency for Reconstruction<\/b>, Thessaloniki, Greece, <\/b>at <\/b>Alpha Bank<\/b> in Athens, Greece, as well as various academic positions held at St. Antony\u2019s College,<\/b> Oxford, U.K., Nuffield College<\/b>, Oxford and the London School of Economics<\/b>, London, U.K.<\/p>\n

In January 2020, Jens Bastian was appointed Senior Policy Advisor<\/b> for ELIAMEP<\/b> (Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy) in Athens, Greece. He is currently CATS Research Fellow<\/span><\/a> at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) in Berlin.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jens Bastian received his Ph.D. from the European University Institute<\/b> in Florence, Italy in April 1993.<\/p>\n
