{"id":54390,"date":"2026-01-19T22:01:01","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T19:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/?post_type=events&#038;p=54390"},"modified":"2026-04-03T12:14:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T09:14:41","slug":"iran-in-crisis-crises-in-focus","status":"publish","type":"events","link":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/en\/events\/crises-in-focus-online-discussion-series-iran-in-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Crises in Focus \u2013 Online Discussion Series: Iran in Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"the-content\"><p>ELIAMEP launched <strong>Crises in Focus<\/strong>, a new series of one-hour online discussions examining the most pressing crises of our time through a focused, in-conversation format between a leading international expert and an ELIAMEP researcher.<\/p>\n<p>The first session, titled Iran in Crisis, took place on <strong>Monday, 19 January 2026<\/strong>, at 11:00 am (EET), featuring <strong>Riccardo Alcaro<\/strong> (Head of Research, Istituto Affari Internazionali) in dialogue with <strong>Ioannis N. Grigoriadis<\/strong> (Senior Research Fellow and Head of ELIAMEP\u2019s Turkey Programme).<\/p>\n<p>The discussion explored the role of Israel, as well as Iran\u2019s strategic defensive posture, structured around three main pillars: ballistic missiles, regional networks, and the nuclear programme. These issues were examined alongside Iran\u2019s domestic economic pressures and the impact of United States sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the speakers assessed EU\u2013Iran relations since 2022 and briefly addressed the role of external actors, including China, Russia, and North Korea.
