Last week, the REACH project drew to a close in the hybrid event Citizens and the future of Europe\u2019s Credibility<\/em>. The policy dialogue marked the launch of the project\u2019s final report, serving as a flagship gathering for practitioners, researchers, and policymakers and citizens; a vital space for exchange, reflection, and showcasing innovative approaches to deliberative processes across Europe.<\/p>\n

The panel was representative of the representative of the multidisciplinary approach of the project and brought whose backgrounds span civil society, research, training, public institutions, and the European Commission. Speakers included Milos Pavkovi\u0107, Chief Strategist at the European Policy Centre (CEP); Igor Bajok, Trainer and Consultant at the Association for Civil Society Development SMART; Ioanna Giakoumopoulou, Project Manager and Research Assistant at ELIAMEP; Blerta Hoxha, Programme Manager for the Western Balkans at International IDEA; Camille Dobler, Head of Research at Missions Publiques; and Martijn Quinn, Deputy Head of Unit for Regional & Bilateral Environmental Cooperation at DG Environment. The discussion was moderated by Corina Stratulat, Associate Director and Head of the European Politics and Institutions Programme at EPC.<\/p>\n

Reflecting the REACH project\u2019s core mission, the panel explored how deliberative democratic processes can reinforce democratic resilience and strengthen citizens\u2019 engagement with the European project. Speakers unpacked how inclusive, well-designed participation mechanisms can counteract democratic fatigue and ensure that civic involvement is not a privilege reserved for those with time, access, or resources. Citizens from across Europe had the chance to voice their opinions as well, emphasising that democratic participation must be supported, encouraged, and structurally enabled rather than left to chance or personal capacity.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere encouraged active dialogue, and the event ultimately underscored a shared conclusion: fostering democratic engagement is a complex, and policy follow through even more so, but initiatives like REACH demonstrate that when institutions, experts, and citizens work in coordination, a dialogue that is extremely productive emerges.<\/p>\n
