{"id":32010,"date":"2017-06-11T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-10T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eliamep.lncdoo.com\/activity\/thriskeia-kai-ethniki-taftotita-ypo-exetasi-i-epidrasi-tou-edad-stis-thriskeftikes-eleftheries-sto-epipedo-vasis\/"},"modified":"2017-06-11T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-06-10T21:00:00","slug":"thriskeia-kai-ethniki-taftotita-ypo-exetasi-i-epidrasi-tou-edad-stis-thriskeftikes-eleftheries-sto-epipedo-vasis","status":"publish","type":"activity","link":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/en\/activity\/thriskeia-kai-ethniki-taftotita-ypo-exetasi-i-epidrasi-tou-edad-stis-thriskeftikes-eleftheries-sto-epipedo-vasis\/","title":{"rendered":"Religion and national identity on trial: the impact of the ECtHR on religious freedom at the grassroots level"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"the-content\"><p><strong>9-10 June, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>  <strong>Lichtenberg-Kolleg, G\u00f6ttingen <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>  Effie Fokas, Grassrootsmobilise Principal Investigator, was recently invited to the Lichtenberg-Kolleg, Institute of Advanced Study at G\u00f6ttingen University, to participate in the workshop \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-goettingen.de\/de\/562427.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Religious freedom and the varieties of religious establishment \u2013 National identities, public morals and cultural values<\/a>\u2019, held on the 9th and 10th of June.<\/p>\n<p>  The workshop was organized by the research group \u2018Human Rights, Constitutional Politics and Religious Diversity\u2019 at the Lichtenberg-Kolleg, and brought together scholars from various disciplines with distinctive regional expertise in order to jointly examine questions of religious freedom and its relationship with claims about issues of national identity, public morals or shared cultural values.<\/p>\n<p>  The workshop focused, in particular, on three inter-related questions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>a) What is the role of religion in constituting national identity, public morals or cultural values across diverse polities?<\/li>\n<li>b) How do references to national identity or cultural-moral traditions constrain religious freedom and other fundamental rights?<\/li>\n<li>c) How do references to national identity or cultural-moral traditions affect aspirations of minority religious groups for accommodation and public recognition?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>  Effie Fokas\u2019 presentation \u2018Religion and national identity on trial: the impact of the ECtHR on religious freedom at the grassroots level\u2019 was based on recent research from the Grassrootsmobilise project.<\/p>\n<p>  The programme is available <a href=\"http:\/\/grassrootsmobilise.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Program-Workshop-Religious-Toleration-9-10-June.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"featured_media":31818,"menu_order":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false},"program":[],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/activity\/32010"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/activity"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/activity"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/31818"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=32010"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"program","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.eliamep.gr\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/program?post=32010"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
