This conference addressed this extremely timely question for Europe, especially in the current context of financial, economic and social crises.<!--more--> It brought together EU-funded research projects from FP6 and FP7 in the field of European identity\/identities to discuss two main issues:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Whether there is a common European identity or several diverging European identities emerging, and what shape(s) it\/they take(s)?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>What (policy and research) implications the development of a European identity\/European identities have for the European Union?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Findings from the case studies of the IME research project were presented in this conference.
