Energy related commodities dominate the region’s imports (by value) with refined petroleum oils being on the top of the list, and crude oil being the mostly imported commodity for most EU MED countries plus Egypt. Non-energy commodities rank at the top of imports in five non-EU Mediterranean countries varying from vehicles (in Albania and Libya) and vegetables (in Lebanon) to wheat in Algeria which is one of the leading wheat importers in the world. Interestingly, gold tops Turkey’s imports.
