Briefing Note 32/2012 offers a concise analysis of Georgia’s domestic politics in the light of the recent parliamentary elections. Finding a stable equilibrium between the advancement of its relations with the West and the required improvement of its relations with Russia is the main task of the new government in Tbilisi. Factors that shaped the electoral results such as the Georgian Orthodox Patriarchate, ethnic and religious identity, and the politics of the winning party “Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia” under B. Ivanishvili are also analysed in this note.
