The Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) organized a public debate on “Can and should the borders be closed to irregular migrants?”. The speakers were divided into two groups: those in favor and those against the proposal. On the one hand, Theodore Lianos (Professor of Political Economy at the Athens University of Economics), Evripidis Stylianidis (Member of the Parliament and Head of Secretariat of Program of the Political Party “New Democracy”) were in favor of the proposal. On the other hand, Michalis Tremopoulos (Member of the European Parliament with the party of Ecologists Greens) and Demetres Christopoulos (President of the Hellenic League for Human Rights and Associate Professor at Panteion University). The journalist Tasos Telloglou moderated the debate, which took place on March 10th, 2011, in the Auditorium of the old Athens Stock Exchange.
