Ambassador (ad.hon) Stefanos Stathatos served in the Diplomatic Corps from 1953 until 1989. He was one of the main representatives of Greece in the negotiations for the country’s adhesion to the EU and served inter alia in Cairo, NATO, Washington, the UN, Paris and London. In 1994 he was appointed Chairman of the Committee of the’12′ for the conclusion of the Stability Pact in Europe. Ambassador Stathatos significantly contributed to the work of the Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy. He became member of the Board of Directors in 1991 and was vice-President from 1994 until 2002. Even after 2002 he continued to show a high interest in ELIAMEP’s research and activities.
