Trump’s presidency is a mediocre one, but he is far from being a President sui generis, argued Thanos Veremis in an interview for the newspaper To Vima. The historian explained that the American president draws examples from a narrow sliver of the American past. Trump is a demagogue, added Veremis, and enjoys stimulating his audience’s imagination, but is, above all, a populist. In American politics, Veremis concluded, populism is prominent and, now, Trump has elevated it into art.
