The fact that no agreement was reached (in the European Council) overlooks the fact that no one questioned the need to enormously increase the EU’s budget as a percentage of its GDP. Neither did anyone question the need to, for the first time, take up mutual debt by putting forward the EU’s budget as collateral, writes Alekos Kritikos in his article for Greek newspaper “Fileleftheros”.
