It is worth noting a less enlightening aspect of the proposal: highlighting the need for new EU budget revenue sources, that is, for new own resources, which will come from a simplified VAT base or from rights on non-recyclable plastics. This idea of new resources existed also in the Commission’s previous proposal, but with minimal chances of acceptance before the coronavirus crisis. Thanks to the crisis, it seems that the need for such a budgetary cut is maturing, Alekos Kritikos points out in his article in the newspaper TA NEA.
