Speaking to journalist Timos Fakalis for the news website ethnogs.gr, Yorgos Christidis commented on Putin’s decision to recognize the self-declared independence of Lugansk and Donetsk, pointing three main conclusions. After 2014, Ukraine is unable to defend its territorial integrity and regardless its size and resources it is considered a weak state.

The second conclusion is the exacerbation of the Russian – West relations amid the planned sanctions of Washington, Canada, London, and the EU. Yorgos Christidis added the emergence of a Russian nationalist ideology focused on the restoration of the Russian national dignity.
