Monica Ricci Sargentini in her article for Italian newspaper “Corriere della Sera” featured the views of Professor Panayotis Tsakonas regarding the escalating crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean. “Ankara understands the developments in the international and regional environment under the assumption that Turkey is a central power in the global system. This exact belief makes it extremely difficult for Ankara to accept certain realities and arrangements in the Eastern Mediterranean, especially since those are deriving from the Republic of Cyprus, a country not recognized by Turkey. The only real way out of the problems between Greece and Turkey is the revitalization of exploratory talks, that came to a standstill after the failed military coup against Erdogan in 2016,” explained Tsakonas.
