Turkey’s recent decision addresses multiple audiences, explained Sotiris Serbos, ELIAMEP Research Fellow, in an interview with SKAI Radio. At the moment, Ankara’s top priority is to seek Western assistance in Syria. What Turkey has explicitly shown is that it will not allow these people to remain in Turkish land if the West does not comply with their demands. Serbos reminds us that Turkey has always wanted to move Syrian refugees to a zone of its own influence in Syrian territory.
