Writing in To Vima tis Kyriakis, Ioannis Armakolas underlines that: “Even more important than who wins the elections is that the losing side recognizes the results and actively participates in parliament; and that the winner does not attempt to ‘capture the state’. […] Some will be monitoring developments closely with a view to finding arguments to further delay or halt the enlargement process. Greece has every reason to avoid falling into the trap of those who portray the Balkan nations as hopeless and regressive states that do not belong to the European Union. The modernization and Europeanisation of the Balkans is a realistic prospect that needs to be supported”.
