“Greece’s decision to appoint a special envoy for Syria in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the right one to make. The experience of Libya showed us that being absent is wrong, even when the conditions are difficult,” writes Dr. George Tzogopoulos in his article for the newspaper TA NEA. Tzogopoulos points out that this is a move grounded on realism and is also in line with our country’s desire to support UN mediation in the peaceful settlement of disputes and upgrade Greece’s presence in the wider Mediterranean region.
