Dr. Eda Gemi is a political sociologist specialized in governance of migration and social integration. She is Associate Professor and Head of Law Department at the University of New York, Tirana, and part-time Professor of Political Science at the University of Tirana. From 2010 to the present, she holds the position of Senior Researcher (project based) at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute (EUI).

She serves as the Greek national expert in the OECD Network of International Migration Experts, and acts as Expert Evaluator (Horizon 2020) and SOC Panel Vice-Chair (MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships) for the Research Executive Agency of European Commission (REA). She is also a member of Steering Committee of the Euro-Mediterranean Research Network on Migration (EuroMedMig).

Dr. Gemi has authored four books on migration, integration, transnationalism, and EU-Western Balkan migration system. Her monograph (co-authored with Anna Triandafyllidou) “Rethinking Migration and Return in Southeastern Europe: Albanian Mobilities to and from Italy and Greece” has recently been published by the Routledge. She has published articles in refereed journals (e.g., International Review of Sociology), and book volumes (e.g., Oxford University Press and Routledge).

Eda Gemi is awarded a PhD from London Metropolitan University, UK and holds a Master of Arts in Southeast European Studies from the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration of University of Athens. Her main areas of research are the governance of migration, social integration, transnationalism, mobility, and political participation.
