ELIAMEP’s South-East Europe Programme organized a closed Policy Roundtable at a central hotel in Athens to present the main findings of EU research project PAVE (Preventing and Addressing Violent Extremism through Community Resilience in the Balkans and MENA).
The first part of the event entitled: “Trends of radicalization leading to violent extremism in the European Union and Western Balkans” focused on the findings of the field research, carried out within the framework of the project, in North Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia
The presentation highlighted the dynamics of offline and online (de)radicalization in the countries concerned and the factors that have shaped trends and developments in the two countries with respect to ethno-political and religious radicalisation.

Then the key findings of the research “The vulnerability of diaspora communities in EU countries” were presented by Triantafyllos Karatrantos, Research Fellow, Security & Foreign Policy Programme, ELIAMEP and commented by Lefteris Papagiannakis, Director of the National Council for Refugees Dimitris P. Sotiropoulos, Professor, University of Peloponnese under the coordination of Ioannis Armakolas, Head of South-East Europe Programme, ELIAMEP / Associate Professor, University of Macedonia.
A discussion on “Radicalization and security challenges for Greece” took place in the second part of the event with the participation of Michalis Chrisochoidis, Senior Policy Advisor, ELIAMEP / Former Minister of Citizen Protection Ino Afentouli, Executive Director, Institute of International Relations Panayotis Tsakonas, Senior Research Fellow, Head, Foreign Policy & Security Programme, ELIAMEP / Professor, University of Athens coordinated by Alexandra Voudouri, Research Associate, SEE Programme ELIAMEP/journalist.
