Ioannis Armakolas visited Stockholm between Feb 1- 3, as part of a delegation of Europe’s Futures, IWM Vienna Alumni in cooperation with Erste Foundation to discuss the EU’s enlargement strategy, during the Swedish 2023 EU presidency, with members of the Swedish government, State Secretary for EU affairs, Christian Danielson, Torbjörn Sohlström, Head of the European Affairs Department, officials, and diplomats from the Swedish Foreign Ministry, as well as with officials of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA)

He also participated at a roundtable meeting at the Swedish Institute for European Policy Studies (SIEPS) on “EU enlargement and the Western Balkans” with the members of the Europe’s Futures Alumni: Nikola Dimitrov (ECFR, BiEPAG), Hedvig Morvai (ERSTE Foundation), Zoran Nechev (IDSCS, BiEPAG)), and Oana Popescu-Zamfir (Global Focus).

Within this framework, the team presented their report on the state of Enlargement amidst the Russian war in Ukraine, how it relates to the future of the European Union and the European security and held fruitful talks with the participants.
