Ioannis Armakolas, Assistant Professor in the Balkan Studies Department at the University of Macedonia (Thessaloniki), “Stavros Costopoulos” Research Fellow and Head of the Southeast Europe Program at ELIAMEP, together with ELIAMEP research associate Panagiotis Paschalidis, presented the findings of ELIAMEP’s research on the representations of Albania, the Albanians and Kosovo in the Greek press. Assistant Professor of Journalism and Media at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Dimitra Dimitrakopoulou was also involved in the research. The presentations were made to the English-speaking Master’s Programme in Southeast European Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. The study of Albanian representations in the Greek press was funded by the “Friedrich Ebert Stiftung” Foundation, Municipality of Athens Office, while the Kosovo representations study was funded by the Kosovo Foundation for Open Society. Visiting Professor at Panteion University, Lambros Baltsiotis commented on the findings. The presentation was followed by an extensive discussion with the students of the program, which revolved around the image of Albania and Albanians in the Greek media and the Greek media’s coverage of the Yugoslav wars in the 1990s.
