‘MUTUAL LESSONS ON MIGRATION POLICY’ International conference in Krakow, June 4-5, 2009

The IDEA project has aimed at studying the phenomenon of migration transformation in Europe by comparing immigration experiences of three groups of countries – Western European, Mediterranean and Central-Eastern countries. The analyses have revealed the challenges that these countries have faced, identified the common problems and the mechanisms behind migration policy-making processes, and specified what “new” immigration countries of Central-Eastern Europe could learn from more experienced “old” immigration countries.

The conference will summarize two-and-a-half-year research work carried out by the Polish Centre of Migration Research in collaboration with 8 other European academic institutions from Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Leading European migration experts will gather in Krakow to discuss immigration experiences of European countries, the challenges that they face, and the issue of new and flexible migration policy.

The conference will take place in ‘Przegorzaly’ conference centre at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow
