Fifth Project Meeting, IME, Identities and Modernities in Europe, IME Newsletter no. 3, 24-26 February 2011

The EU funded research project on European Identities and European Modernities (IME) which started in May 2009 has already reached the halfway mark. The IME Consortium, after meeting in Istanbul in October, met again on 24-27 February, this time in Paris, France, hosted by the SciencesPo.

During the meeting, the consortium presented the outcomes of their research that explores the ways civil society actors, on the one hand, and, on the other, private individuals understand and negotiate their identity in relation with the concepts of nation, Europe and modernity. The research teams participating in IME, including the Greek team of ELIAMEP, produced separate case studies on this issue, which are all available from the IME website (http://fass.kingston.ac.uk/public/ime/). Briefings and highlights from these reports are available in the IME Newsletter, Issue 3 (March 2011).  Having concluded all the fieldwork, the IME Consortium engaged afterwards into discussions about the methodology and strategy that would enable each team presenting comprehensive country reports so as to move forward, towards critically presenting and comparing all those different perceptions of modernity, nation and Europe.
