18th International Conference of Europeanists- IME session on Education, 20-22 June 2011

Τhe IME consortium took part in 18th International Conference of Europeanists organised by the Council of European Studies and hosted by Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals in Barcelona on 20-22 June 2011. Panels combined disciplines, nationalities and generations and focused around the theme of transnationalization that encapsulates at once the broadening of the Europeans’ economic, political, social, and cultural experiences that has taken place in the last two to three decades.

The session, ‘Identities and modernities inEurope: The case of transforming national education in countries in and aroundEurope, 2000-2010’, was chaired by Hara Kouki from the ELIAMEP team. The comparative analysis of participation in and discourses over education aimed at reflecting the tensions that characterize in general national identities and the contemporary challenges posed by their relationship with Europe and modernization in an all the more globalizing era.

Hara Kouki also contributed to the paper entitled ‘Opposing the ‘Bologna Process’ in Greece, Croatia and Turkey’, while the session comprised, as well, the following papers by IME members: ‘The Place of Religion in Education in Bulgaria, France and the UK’ and Discourses of Europeanism, Modernity and National identity as seen in the Accommodation of Minorities in the Education System: the case of Hungary and Finland’.
