The Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) organized a public debate on “Are courts with fewer judges and the restriction of the means of redress fair means to accelerate the administration of justice?”. The speakers were divided into two groups: those in favor and those against the proposal. On the one hand, Stathis Vergonis (Chief Public Prosecutor of the District Court Judges of Ioannina) and George Stavropoulos (President of the 3rd Department of the Council of State) spoke in favor of the proposal. On the other hand, Yiannis Giannidis (Associate Professor of Law at the University of Athens) and Theodore Schinias (Consultant of the Athens Bar Association) spoke against the proposal. Demetres Kastriotis (Lawyer and Journalist) moderated the discussion, which took place on Thursday, June 16th, 2011, at the “Kostis Palamas” Auditorium of the University of Athens.
