Dr. Evangelos Ilias-Tembos

E.Tempos [1]Dr. Evangelos Ilias-Tembos, initially studied “History” at The American College of Greece, Deree College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History,  “Political Science & Public Administration”  at the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration of the School of Economics & Political Sciences of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, obtaining the respective undergraduate degree, and “Directing” at  the Lycourgos Stavrakos Hellenic Cinema & Television School.

Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, he pertained postgraduate studies abroad, obtaining a Doctorate Degree in “Military History” from the University of York in Great Britain and two Postgraduate Degrees, one from the University of Birmingham, also in Great Britain in “International Studies-Defence”, and the second οne from Panteios University of Social and Political Sciences, Department of International and European Studies, specializing on “European Union and Developing Countries”, that was co-organized by the Second Jean Monnet European Seat of Panteios University of Social & Political Sciences and the Institute of International Relations (IDIS).

He is member of many think-tanks and research centres in Greece (ELIAMEP, ELΙSME-HEL.I.S.S-Hellenic Institute for Strategic Studies, [2]  CEMMIS-Centre for Mediterranean, Middle East and Islamic Studies [3], Institute of Democracy “Konstantinos Karamanlis”, etc) and abroad (IISS), and his research interests focus mainly on the bilateral Greek-Turkish relations, the Cyprus issue, the Balkan affairs and the EU Common Foreign & Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common [European] Security & Defence Policy (CSDP).

Since February 2012, he is the co-editor of ΕLIAMEP’s bimonthly English-language electronic newsletter titled  ‘Middle East Mediterranean [4]. Until  the end of 2013 he was responsible for the column “Ιnternational Institutions & Greece” of  ELIAMEP’s blog.

Αfter the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, he is responsible for ELIAMEP ‘s internet column titledELIAMEP joins the debate on the Ukrainian crisis [5]”. Additionally, he is responsible for the ELIAMEP’s  new web page titled Information on scholarships, grants & research in social sciences [6]“.

Since December 2015 he is the co-coordinator of ELIAMEP’s new webpage on the Palestinian/Middle East Conflict titled “Palestine News Forum” [8] being co-responsible for the weekly updating/uploading of this new webpage.

He works as an Expert-First Counsellor οn ‘European Union & European Defence Policy’ at the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs  & he is a Senior Research Fellow of ELIAMEP since 1996.

Since 2010, Dr. Ilias-Tembos, concurrently with his main occupation as a Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs’  official, works as a Senior Research Associate of the Centre for Mediterranean, Middle East and Islamic Studies (CEMMIS) [9]of the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of Peloponnese and since 2000, as a Senior Research Fellow & Strategic Analyst of the Hellenic Institute for Strategic Studies (HEL.I.S.S.) [2] in Athens.
