Policy Paper summarises main findings of MIDAS project

MIDAS SQUARE [1]The present policy paper [2] summarises the main findings of the MIDAS project, which sought to assess Greece’s irregular migration control practices between 2008-2013 on the basis of their cost-effectiveness. The present policy paper briefly presents Greece’s main funding sources, reviews Greece’s policy priorities in the period 2008-2013 and reviews the investments undertaken. It argues that placing the emphasis on border control and the three-pillar scheme arrest-detain-return is not cost-effective and concludes with policy recommendations in line with Greece’s human rights obligations that will benefit both migrants and the host society.
