About ELIAMEP

Letter from the President of the Board of Directors

ELIAMEP is a place for research and training on matters of European
and foreign policy. It is also a forum for open dialogue and deliberation
in a world that is changing at an ever faster pace.

Founded in 1988, ELIAMEP was inspired by what was at the time an ambitious and rather audacious initiative on the part of Thanos Veremis. In its early stages, ELIAMEP focused on strategic and security issues and concentrated on Greece’s wider geographical neighbourhood. Through the knowledge, experience and expertise it gathered, it gradually expanded its thematic priorities and activities. [More..]

Annual Report

ELIAMEP Annual Reports

ELIAMEP is involved in a wide range of activities and research programmes, which cover different aspects of European and foreign policy and other related fields. In our effort to raise more awareness on our work and for the sake of transparency  we have decided to publish annual reports, starting in 2006, including summaries of the main research tasks carried out, events, publications, networking activities, partnerships, fundraising and other actions implemented within the Foundation’s annual work programme.

Funding

Funding

The Foundation’s main sources of funding have included research and training contracts with public and private sector entities and grants from international organisations and foundations. ELIAMEP wishes to express its gratitude to the Hellenic Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence for their continuous support. We are especially indebted to our benefactors the A.G. Leventis Foundation and the Stavros S. Niarchos Foundation whose contribution was crucial for the acquisition of our premises as well as to the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation,TITAN Cement Company S.A., S&B Industrial Minerals S.A., the Lilian Voudouri Foundation, the Bank of Greece, ΟΤΕ S.A. and Efthymiadis Group of Companies in Thessaloniki, without whose support our move to the new premises would not have been possible. Institutional Partnership Network

In 2004 ELIAMEP launched its Institutional Partnership Programme, an initiative for private sector entities, diplomatic representations in Greece, business associations and other institutions. It aims at creating a wide network of institutional members as well as securing financial support for our work and providing a solid basis for our activities.

With an annual subscription we offer our institutional partners periodic briefings on our work as well as privileged access to the wide variety of events we organise. Our wish is to encourage a more inter-active relationship through an open network of institutional members.

ELIAMEP would like to thank its Institutional Partners for supporting our work in 2010:

ALAPIS,  CHRYSAFIDIS S.A.,  EFG EUROBANK ERGASIAS S.A., ΕLGΕΚΑ, J&P AVAX S.A., NATIONAL BANK OF GREECE, SOUTHAFRICAN EMBASSY, TITAN CEMENT GROUP, YALCO S.A.

Networks

Networks
Partnerships

Since 2000, ELIAMEP is the coordinator of both the European and American Marshall Memorial Fellowship Programs of the German Marshall Fund in Greece. The MMF programme aims at creating a network of young European and American leaders in an attempt to further strengthen the transatlantic relationship. Since 2001 ELIAMEP has been cooperating with the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, within the framework of the Onassis Foundation Programme of Scholarships for Foreigners. In the context of the cooperation agreement between the two Foundations, Onassis Fellows use the Onassis workplaces at the ELIAMEP premises and have access to ELIAMEP’s library.

ELIAMEP also serves as the channel for recruiting Greek students for the Master’s Programme at the College of Europe through the Greek Selection Committee and for the Master’s Programme in International Relations with a concentration on Greek-Turkish Relations at İstanbul Bilgi University. The Master of Arts Program in International Relations at Bilgi University aims at combining a solid foundation in the discipline of International Relations, with an area of concentration in Greek-Turkish relations. The two-year graduate is intended for future academics, diplomats, journalists and government officials, working or planning to work on different aspects of Turkish and Greek studies (see the call for applications).

ELIAMEP has become actively involved with the Policy Network in London and the European Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science in the project “An EU ‘fit for purpose’ in a global age.” Through a series of seminars in different European countries, including Greece, two high-profile conferences in London and Brussels, and the participation of leading European academics and politicians, this initiative will lead to a collective volume of policy papers on a wide range of EU policy choices post-2009.

With the cooperation of a team of NGOs and Foundations, including ELIAMEP, the common website ngo.gr was created in order to give, to any NGO that wishes, the possibility to search and locate other NGOs with same or similar aspirations, aiming at any type of cooperation, occasional or long-lasting.

Networks of Excellence

ELIAMEP participates in two Networks of Excellence funded by the European Commission, EU-CONSENT – Wider Europe, Deeper Integration? and RECWOWE – Reconciling Work and Welfare.
