Since its establishment ELIAMEP has been operating within a constraint budget, funded primarily through the conclusion of contracts for the implementation of research and training projects, as well as the sponsorships from Greek and foreign foundations and organizations. Its property consists solely of the office space it owns, which was acquired with the support of the A.G. Leventis Foundation and the Stavros S. Niarchos Foundation.
In the past ELIAMEP’s work has been supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of National Defense of Greece. The state funding usually did not represent more than 25-30% of the Foundation’s total budget. Since 2009, the activities of ELIAMEP are funded exclusively by the private sector in Greece, collaborations with corresponding foundations abroad, as well as research projects funded primarily by the European Commission. In a time of great economic hardship ELIAMEP is proud to secure funding which allows it to offer employment to distinguished scientists and young researchers.
Over the course of the years, the sponsorships of the Alexandros S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation and the National Bank were extremely important both for the implementation of specific actions, as well as the overall functioning of ELIAMEP. The support of the Bank of Greece, TITAN Cement Company S.A., OTE S.A., S&B Industrial Minerals S.A., the Lilian Voudouris Foundation and the Efthymiadis Group in Thessaloniki has also been very important for the effective functioning of the Foundation.
Over the past few years EIAMEP has also created a series of research positions funded through high-profile sponsorships, such as that of the Ioannis F. Costopoulos Foundation, the Bodossakis Foundation and the Saudi Arabian company Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC). These sponsorships promote ELIAMEP’s efforts to support young scientists of international scope and to actively participate in international networks and projects of the European Union.
Specific projects or actions of ELIAMEP have in the past been supported by public or private institutions in Greece and abroad, such as the Ministries of Economy and of Culture, the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, the Representation of the European Commission in Greece, OPAP S.A., the companies INTRACOM S.A. and PriceWaterhouseCoopers, the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the European Science Foundation, the World Bank, the NATO Public Diplomacy Division and the Eleni Nakou Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, the Japan Foundation, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, Stiftung Mercator, the United States Institute of Peace and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Last but not least, in 2004 ELIAMEP launched the Institutional Partnership Programme, through which companies, entrepreneurs’ associations, embassies and other similar institutions can support the continuation and further development of the Foundation’s work.
Currently the following institutions participate in the Programme:
